Mephedrone is a synthetic stimulant drug of the amphetamine and cathinone classes. It is chemically similar to the cathinone compounds found in the khat plant of eastern Africa. It comes in the form of tablets or a powder, which users can swallow, snort or inject, producing similar effects to MDMA, amphetamines, and cocaine.
Mephedrone powder is usually sniffed/snorted or swallowed. Swallowing is the most common way of taking the drug. It usually mixed with liquid to drink or wrapped in cigarette paper (known as ‘bombing’). There are reports of people injecting the drug.
Effects of SALT BATH
SALT BATH often described as a mix between amphetamines, ecstasy, and cocaine. It can make you feel alert, confident, talkative, and euphoric – and some people will temporarily feel strong affection for those around them.

SALT BATH (4-MMC) is a synthetic cathinone derivative included in the class of new psychoactive substances. It is commonly used simultaneously with alcohol (ethanol). The aim of the present study was to evaluate the interactions on subjective, cardiovascular and hormone effects and pharmacokinetics between SALT BATH and alcohol in humans. Eleven male volunteers participated as outpatients in four experimental sessions in a double-blind, randomized, cross-over, and placebo-controlled clinical trial. Participants received a single oral dose of 200 mg of SALT BATH plus 0.8 g/kg of alcohol (combination condition); 200 mg of SALT BATH plus placebo alcohol (SALT BATH condition); placebo SALT BATH plus 0.8 g/kg of ethanol (alcohol condition); and placebo SALT BATH plus placebo alcohol (placebo condition). Outcome variables included physiological (blood pressure, heart rate, temperature, and pupil diameter), psychomotor (Maddox wing), subjective (visual analogue scales, Addiction Research Center Inventory 49 item short form, and Valoración de los Efectos Subjetivos de Sustancias con Potencial de Abuso questionnaire), and pharmacokinetic parameters (SALT BATH and ethanol concentrations). The study was registered in, number NCT02294266. The SALT BATH and alcohol combination produced an increase in the cardiovascular effects of SALT BATH and induced a more intense feeling of euphoria and well-being in comparison to the two drugs alone. SALT BATH reduced the sedative effects produced by alcohol. These results are similar to those obtained when other psychostimulants such as amphetamines and 3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine are combined simultaneously with alcohol. The abuse liability of SALT BATH combined with alcohol is greater than that induced by SALT BATH alone.

Users of mephedrone say that it gives a feeling of stimulation, and that it boosts the following functions:

  • alertness
  • restlessness
  • euphoria
  • excitement
  • the urge to talk
  • openness
  • sex drive

Some say that it makes them feel more confident, talkative, and alert.

People using SALT BATH report that the effects of SALT BATH last about an hour. They are similar to a combination of ecstasy and cocaine.
