Diclazepam (Ro5-3448) is a benzodiazepine and functional analog of diazepam. It is also known as chlorodiazepam and 2′-chloro-diazepam. In 1960, Leo Sternbach and his team at Hoffman-La Roche synthesized it for the first time. It is currently not licensed for use as a medication and is instead sold as an unscheduled substance. Human efficacy and safety have not been evaluated. Its effects in animal models are comparable to those of diazepam, with long-acting anxiolytic, anticonvulsant, hypnotic, sedative, skeletal muscle relaxant, and amnestic activities.
