Although there is little evidence linking MXE to addiction, experts believe that its closeness to ketamine suggests it has a similar risk of addiction. While the UK’s Independent Scientific Committee on Drugs considers ketamine to be less hazardous than other illicit drugs like methamphetamine, heroin, cocaine, or GHB,13 certain studies have found a substantial risk of tolerance and addiction.
Effects on the urinary tract
MXE appears to produce similar bladder and urinary tract difficulties to ketamine when used frequently and for long periods of time. Ketamine-induced cystitis can be life-threatening and is a painful illness that requires constant therapy. 2 Anyone experiencing bladder or urinary tract issues should cease using MXE and seek medical help.

There have been no formal studies to show how MXE works, however it is thought to work in the same manner that ketamine does by altering neurotransmitters and their receptors in the brain. Dopamine, which is connected with feelings of exhilaration and has a role in many addictions, including substance use disorders, is one of the neurotransmitters thought to be altered, in addition to glutamate and aspartate.
MXE can be consumed in a variety of ways. Some people take it sublingually or orally (under the tongue). Some people take it by inhaling it through their nose or snorting it. It can also be injected into a muscle or inserted into the rectum, where it is absorbed into the bloodstream.

Doses are usually between 5 and 90 mg. It can take 30 to 90 minutes to feel the effects of a snorted substance, which might lead to people “top-up” or take more before the drug kicks in. This is a risky technique because the medicine can accumulate in your system and create harmful interactions. The effects last one to three hours on average. The effects of MXE injection might start within five minutes and extend for up to one hour.
MXE has both stimulant and dissociative effects, with the former predominating at lower doses and the latter at greater ones. You may have an unpleasant experience depending on the set and environment, as well as your personal reaction to the substance.

Nystagmus is a disorder in which a person’s eyes move (a condition that causes involuntary shaking or wobbling of the eyes)
Disconnection (often referred to as an “m-hole” parallel to the k-hole experience on ketamine).
